I am new at this board. I have questions about obtaining a patent. I have been reading about how some products can't be patented. I have an idea but I am not so sure. Here is an example. I am considering a customized product. Say I wanted to create a customized birth announcement product like a baby newspaper that resembles a newspaper but has information about the baby. Is this sort of thing able to be patented. Or any type of customized birth announcement product? I read about products that can be patented but I am not sure if my idea can be patented.

What you are proposing in your example cannot be patented. What you want is a copyright for a style of presentation. And a search of the US Copyright office lists over 1000 items for birth announcments.
