What is the name of your state?FL

My step father's mom answered a personal ad for a man seeking woman. They bought a house together in Palm Coast. She lives in Chicago - he said he was from Virginia. She only speaks polish. In FL, where they bought the house is a very large amount of people (who seem to all be connected) that speak polish. (this will make sense in a minute) Generally, in FL I haven't found a large community or a couple of people for that matter that speak polish. Anyways, they paid cash for the house, she paid about 90k and he paid 65k. Well, just after closing, he married a polish lady without a green card and she never moved into the house. He told her that he would kill any one who made trouble in his life and even showed her the weapons he would use, then he would kill himself. After a little public record snooping, this seems to smell very fishy. Some kind of ring of people who are ripping women off. He continues to run these ads in several polish newspapers throughout the country. My main concern is her getting her money bakc. What type of legal recourse does she have? We contacted an attorney who referred us to the state attorney here. They advised to go to the police, which she doesn't want to do because the "who will give (her) the money if he is in jail". Her name is on the deed, so she isn't completely screwed! Thanks!!!

That seems a good place to start if, by "here" you mean Florida.

If she goes to the State Attorney, he gets prosecuted. If he's prosecuted and then found guilty, then he goes to jail. If he's found guilty, then you can take action to remove his name from the deed, and your relative will be the sole owner. She can then contact a realtor, and sell the property, perhaps even making some money in the deal.

Such would be my suggestion, and if carefully explained, your relative should be able to grasp the issues, and see the light at the end of this particular tunnel.

Good luck! But it really really really should be reported, so that if there's really a ring, it can be broken and others won't be taken advantage of like that.

Best regards-

Thank you and I definitely agree. I told her she would be like a hero if she broke this up, and she is starting to see we are right. I really appreciate the advice and I will keep ya posted! Thanks! :D
