What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

Well, to start off I'm going to be eligible for social security this year(62). I know people sometimes have a little trouble so I called early to find out what all I needed. First thing was when I got my social security number long long ago I was a kid around 11 or 12 working detasseling. At that time I just gave them my short version. I'll give an example but it's not my name(Donnie instead of Donald) my middle name and then last. At the present it's still that way when they send me info from social security. Now for the other part. I was told I could change it when I came in and needed ID birth certificate etc. Ok so I got out my old tattered 50+ year old birth certificate and it didn't have my middle name on it so I called the county where I was born and asked if it could have been left off. They couldn't tell me but stated I could get a new one if I sent all the info they requested and the way I thought it might be. I received it three days ago and I don't have a middle name on my legal birth certificate. All my records, drivers license, bank records, credit cards plus all my kids birth certificates etc. show I have a middle name. Should I try to change all this or just the social security part?
Thanks

So if you name is straighten out with the new BC , why can't the SS # be used ?

You'll have to ask SSA again .

It wasn't straightened out. I found out I have no middle name (which I have been using since first grade and BC is different than what social security has.

Sorry I hadn't gotten back as I lost my password. Ok. To update I'm in the process of changing my name that was on my birth certificate to the one I'va always used and what my drivers license, military records etc show. In other words the one that has me with a middle name. One I gat that fixed and it's in the process now I'll call the social security office and talk to them again about getting their part changed as well. The county/state where I was born will change the name to what I've been using as long as I can give then certain documents that shows I've used that noame for at least over 10 years. Fortunately two dd214's from the military and a honorable discharde certificate was enough. I needed three. They won't use drivers license, social security but would use baptism records, military, high school diploma and divorce or marriage records.
Thanks for the help and I'm going to go ahead and close this until I get things back and talk to the S.S. office.
