Ahhh 'Electronic Babysitting'...

I blame the women myself.. demand equality and demand to be able to work. They should be at home looking after the kids!

LB, you could be thrashed for that remark!! Not all moms can afford to be home looking after the kids...after all, we're not all married to lawyers...

Besides, electronic babysitting has NOTHING to do with whether or not the mother is home. I go to work, go to college, and raise 3 kids, and my kids consider themselves doggone lucky if they see 2 hours of TV between Monday and Friday...not 2 hours a day, 2 hours a week! There isn't a single TV in a "common area" in my house, meaning the kitchen, living room, kid's bedrooms, etc. In fact, it isn't until the weekend when their couch potato...um, I mean Dad is home that they watch TV for any length of time.

C'mon you guys !

You're straying off of the original purpose of this thread.

Let's get back on point, and talk about your "childhood rememberances", not philosophical issues !

LB, start your own thread if that's the route you want to take on this thread. I wanted this thread to be a happy thread.

LB was just kidding, weren't you sweetie? ;)

He is amazed at how a woman can work AND raise children all in the same day. He has the utmost respect....don't ya babe? :)

Okay, IAAL...when the THRILL of making it past first base on a date was getting a first kiss...and THAT was a lot! And the first time you had sex (*gasp*) you were more worried about 1.)gettting caught or 2.)getting pregnant than you were about getting AIDS.

How about a time when kids knew what a curfew was...and a 10:00 curfew meant 10PM, not 10AM.

How about a time when your parents didn't need a chip to determine if it was okay for you to watch a TV show or not...there was no cursing, violence, or nudity, and sex, if anything, was implied, not graphically demonstrated...

How about a time when a good night out on a Saturday was getting in your car and "cruising the strip," without having to worry that if you went by the same spot more than twice in an hour, you would be fined.

How about a time when you could afford the gas to go cruising on a Saturday night. And your car was really Dad's, because most kids didn't have cars.

Sometimes I feel sad for my kids, knowing they will never know some of the more innocent pleasures...

I still do this ! I get into my Chevy lowrider on Wednesday nights, and cruise Van Nuys Boulevard. Now, don't get me started talking about "I Wanna Be Like You" (that's my ride's name), because I've talked about my "ride" many times on this board.

Okay, go ahead, ask me . . .

and, of course, I was teasing right back at LB too! He's great!

Hey, ever drive around with your car windows rolled up so everyone would think you had A/C?

FF did a real switcheroo--from french fries to fat free!

My response:

Yeah ! You got a problem with Wednesday nights ?

I wouldn't go out on any other night. All other nights are for sissy girlie-men. Wednesday night is "cruise night" - - in Mexicanville (San Fernando, man !) That's Cholo night, with beans and Frijoles. And dingle balls hanging from the rearview.

My response:

Oh, then you haven't read any of my earlier posts about my "ride".

Well then, I must tell you.

I've named her "I Wanna Be Like You", and she has that written on the rear window.

She's a 1965 Chevy Impala, with white leather tuck & roll upholstery. Her seats are on electric swivels, so when you open the doors the seats turn toward the open doorway, and then move out about 6 inches. As soon as you sit your bottom down, they slowly move back into position. That was my latest addition.

She's got purple pearlescent paint, gold wire wheels, whitewalls, and green lights in the wheel wells that come on at night. She's got gold trim everywhere - - and I don't mean paint - - I'm talking about real, dipped, 14k gold trim all around.

She's got aircraft landing gear shock absorbers that, with the flick of a switch, go up and down from 1" to 12". Each can be controlled separately. It's weird when I do that though.

She's got a 427ci engine (sucks the gas), and a Holly four-barrel (all engine parts are chromed).

She's got an 8 speaker, 500 watt RMS, stereo system, with CD Changer, Tape Player, and AM/FM, with two Infinity woofers in the trunk.

I sometimes go into Pacoima and hang out with the "bros" and we stand there, in the church parking lot, with our rides, looking cool.

I like to take "I Wanna Be Like You" out cruising on Van Nuys Boulevard on Wednesday nights (cruise night). I drive her, maybe, 4 to 6 times per month.

Mostly, I drive my 1989 Rolls-Royce "Corniche" convertible, or my BMW. It depends on the mood I'm in that morning.

Anyway, that's my "stable" for right now.
