I am trying to find out what the law is in New Jersey regarding obtaining recods from a lawyer. These records pertain to an adoption, and I understand the court records are sealed, but I am interested in the records that the lawyer has. This is not my adoption, it was my fathers adoption and took place in the 1950's. I have the contact information of the attorney that practices now, who was affiliated with the attorney that performed the adoption. I guess I just want to get the legal facts, before I contact the attorney, so I dont get pushed aside if I do have a legal right to the information. I don't even know if there will be any usable tidbits of information in the records or not, but I would like to give it a try. Any advice would be appreciated.
