What is the name of your state? Indiana

My husband and I moved to Indiana and signed a year lease that expires March 31, 2004. I transferred with a job and my husband found one once we moved. Shortly after we moved my position at my job was no longer available. I have had trouble finding another job. We have exhausted every resource we can and now can no longer afford to live in our apartment. What, if anything, can we do to terminate our lease? We cannot even afford to move into another apartment. We are returning to where we moved from to stay with family until we can get back on our feet. I am not expecting that there is much that can be done but some advice would be much appreciated.

*** Unless your lease has a job loss or job transfer clause in it, there is really nothing you can do that is risk free. You can certainly contact your landlord and explain your situation. It is possible that he/she could make some allowances but they are not obligated to do so. If you are able to terminate your lease early, be sure that you get it in writing and a SIGNED condition report when you leave (since you will be leaving the area).

Simple make sure the landlord doesnt lose any money on you.

Just inform the landlord to start running ads asap, and you will clean up the place asap, so when prospective tenats come to see the apartment this weekend, someone will sign a lease asap...

and then you can move asap.

Oh Jetx is right make sure before you hand back the keys to get it in writing and signed that you dont owe the landlord any money.

Apparently Macktosh thinks ads are free.

Oh Jetx is right...

Of course JETX is right. And he/she spends a considerable amount of time correcting Macktosh's ill advice.

No, the landlord will deduct the cost of the ads plus any other costs in finding a new tenant from the security deposit, that's the way landlords do it.
