What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? California

Hello. I need your help. Back in the mid-1990's in Santa Barbara, CA... I lost a job and ran into some credit card problems. Well, I tried to work out some resolutions with these few card companies, but I suspect most have "charged off" on me. Again, this is about Summer 1995. Just a few days ago, out of the blue, I received a letter from one of these creditors (Collection Agency must have purchased my info from the credit card company) or I believe there may have been a bank card merger, and the old records were transferred to the credit card owner which I have a current account (in good standing) -- because there is no way that my residence address could have been found -- unless thru this current bank card company. I have a very common name... something like "Steve Smith." This debt is under $5,000.00 . Is there a statue of limitations in California for old credit card debts like these? I thought that after 7 years, credit report is wiped clean ? I'm kind of worried, and I would sincerely appreciate your and any member's advice. Thank you !!

SOL for credit cards in the state of California is 4 years from the date of last activity. If your debt is older than this then it is no longer collectable. Send them a C&D letter CRRRM to ask them to stop contacting you on this old debt. Below is a link that has more information as well as sample letters that will help.

Good luck!
