What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CALIFORNIA
I apologize if this has been asked before or if I'm in the wrong forum.
Mandatory on-call shifts have been recently implemented at my job recently for full and part time workers. Each employee is given enough days to pick 4 days for a month and if days aren't filled then those full and part time employees who didn't sign up will be placed on mandatory call (starting alphabetically). The hours for these on call shifts are either 7am to 3pm or 3pm to 11pm. Lately, when there is a shortage on the later shift, my employer would call the on call from 3pm at an earlier time (usually around 11am to 2pm) to tell that employee to come in at 3pm since they are on call and there is a shortage. Is this legal? Or are they supposed to call when your clock starts and you're getting paid?
Thanks!
