What is the name of your state? Indiana. If someone is approved for Disability because of a health issue, Hepatitis, and receiving it for 3 years. This is the time frame that was approved. This person has gone through all of the shot treatments and all the follow ups but now is said to have a clean bill of health but the three years are not up. This person does have some liver damage but not that they feel good, continuely go to the bars, cassino's, smoke pot, come in drunk more times then not. Does there disability pay go on for the entire 3 years or would it stop? Of course they are not going to report it but does SS have a department that checks into this stuff?
Also, part two of the question. This person gets $850 a month for there son living with them but does not spend it on the child. They do spend it for housing and the bills that go along with that but they are below the $850 amount. they have not bought any school clothes, shoes, coat, etc. and the son has one pair of pants to wear and wears shorts most of the time. Has only one pair of shoes to wear so the son is seen wearing slippers alot. Is only give an amount of money for school food which does not include getting seconds if still hungry. When the son asks for any money at all it is a screaming match. Doesn't the CP have to show receipts for the total $850 a month on how it is spent? Does SS check on this too?

Can anyone answer any part of the above posting?

I do not understand how Social Security benefits work. Does a person have to requalify at certains times? Do they have to show where the money is being spent? ect.... This is my son's father in Indiana, my son lives with him. This is my concern.

Ok , If you suspect fraud , contact SSA .

If, you suspect Child abuse or negligence contact Child Protective Services , or what ever it's called in your area .

How old is the Child ?

If old enough to be in school , then school personnel should have taken action at some point , if they see signs of either .

I contacted FOC here in Michigan and since there is nothing in the order about providing clothes they can't help. So I have alreay talked to the school in Ind. and they are going to keep an eye on it this week to see if my son shows up in shorts all week. He has one pair of pants now because I bought them over Thanksgiving for him. They the school is going to talk to dad. If nothing changes then I am going to contact CPS in there county. He is on disability and recieves $1500 for himself and then $850 a month for our son living there then $410 a month in child support that I pay him too. But claims he has no money for anything. But x wife has moved back in and draining him dry with trips to the bars, casino's etc..
I wanted to know if he is healthy now, does he still get to be on disability? Or does he have to recertify at certain times. Isn't he suppose to be keeping receipts etc.. of how he spends our son's disability money??
Our son is 17 and has asked his dad several times for money for clothes but his dad won't give him any. His dad puts $50 every two weeks in our sons savings account to spend but then gets mad when he does. Dad is bringing in alittle over 1 1/2 times what I bring home and I have to work for mine. When our son lived with me dad never paid and I had $410 more but still managed to provide clothes, coats, shoes, boots and food.
I pay my child support because i believe it is the right thing to do and I can't dictate how it is spent. I know there are overhead costs for housing but not to spend any money on clothes or anything?? My son doesn't ask for alot but he would like some pants for winter.

IF He was approved for 3 years , that's where it will stand .

He would only need to notify SSA if sent a review , and then He could technically still collect . SSA is not going to investigate beneficiaries unless they have good cause , and then most likely require him to be re-evaluated by one of their Facility Doctors .

He does not have to keep records of the minor child's benefit amount .

If school personnel see a problem now they should act on it , talk to the parent , and if the issue is not rectified in a short order , they should call CPS .

If they do not , by all means call it in anonymously .

His three years should be up about 2 months after my son turns 18, what timing. We had a friends daughter living with us here in MI and she received disability payments from her dad. I was her guardian and I had to fill out an expense sheet at the end of the year and keep receipts to turn in along with a diary of what her money was spent on. Her mother had to do that also when she lived with her. That's why I was wondering. So he can do whatever now that he is healthy and still receive money? Some how that doesn't seem right. My son is upset about the whole money situation because he knows how much he gets a month and he also knows what he spends it on while he tell our son he has no money.

That's because you weren't the accrual Custodial parent , but rather someone's " payee" .

I don't know why this child's mother had to fill out expense papers , there must of been more to it .

While you say He's healthy , perhaps by SSA's definition He may not be yet .

I get my own SSI and right now I don't know if I could say that I am healthy or anything, I did go to college for about 3 semesters and then I got to stressed out to continue so I dropped out. I am not on any meds right now but it doesn't mean that I can work, If I can't go to school for any length of time I doubt I could work for any length of time either. I still have another year though before SS reviews my case and I guess I will see what they say then.
