Statute of limitations on credit card debt and written contracts in NJ is SIX years. That SOL starts 30 days after your last payment, when you presumably went continuously delinquent and never paid again.

Types of bankruptcy ?? You can find that with Google, and on this site ! The most common is Chapter 7, where all your debts are discharged in about 90 days. The other is Chapter 13, but you must have a steady income to pay into the plan as it will take ALL of your disposable income for 3-5 years. Sounds to me like you'd be a prime candidate for a Chapter 7. You can find info on bankruptcy at www.thebankruptcysite.com.

Yes, you can file w/o a lawyer, but its not recommended. BK is NOT 'simple' by any means and one slip-up on a form can get you in big trouble.

When you file for bankruptcy, you must include ALL debts, you can NOT leave out any debts. As far as keeping a card open for 'emergencies', it doesn't work that way. Most creditors will close the account and cancel your card even if you owed them nothing when you filed. The fact that you filed BK at all is more risk than they're willing to take - even though you can't do it again for 6 years.

You will need to get an estimated value on your boat, and an estimate for all repairs. I'm not sure if a boat can be considered a 'homestead' or not. For this type of thing you really should see a lawyer.

For low income people there are services such as legal aid, call them.
