First and foremost you need to tell us more about your situation, When did you buy your house? what's the current value? how much do you owe? etc. Prioritize your expenses and make the payment of your mortgage the priority immedialty. I don't know what state you're in but you can call me at 1 877 427 6083 and I'll point you in the right direction put you in touch with bankers and other financial companies to help you. It's very hard to just tell you "just pay it, just do as they say" I can't tell you right now the right way to go about it but try by all means to be current, if you can't be current keep a close look at any mail you get from your mortgage company. Some companies like Ameriquest will confuse you to try to foreclose asap. If you have credit cards with balances available take out cash advances but don't depend on this as a way out. You can be late paying utilities without them reporting to the credit bureaus (sometimes). The person at the mortgage company that just told you to sell your house because you can't afford it is an idiot and didn't offer any solutions.
