Dash, at this point I really think you are best served by talking to a local attorney. Anything we can tell you about what *might* happen *if*, is going to be supposition and nothing more.

See, that's the problem with oral agreements. They aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

Regarding "wasting your money on a lawyer", I would contact your local or closest major city Bar Association. They normally have a referral service where you can meet once with an attorney for a small fee; then you can pursue with that attorney, or another, or none.

As an example, when I was in St. Louis, my Work Comp case came up for adjudication. Knowing the company had an attorney experienced in such issues, and I wasn't, I contacted the Bar Assoc Referral service and was able to speak with an attorney for 30 minutes for FREE. Of course, this was because it was a Work Comp/Disability case; otherwise I would have had a fee to the Assoc for $30. Still would have been a great deal. And, BTW, we have finally settled the case for half again as much as the company's original offer and, since the attorney is only taking 25% rather than 1/3 (again, because it's WC), he has more than paid for himself.

See lawyers aren't all bad! ;)
