If the electricity in the building goes out a lot, there is probably electrical problems that should be checked out.

If the electricity goes out for a short time, chances are the problem is not inside the building. If the problem is in the building, the power will not go on until someone comes to fix it. If the power goes out in the whole neighborhood, the electric company will fix it very quickly.

Wow! As usual great advice (along with some laughs). I will get a second opinion from a "more experienced" electrician (i.e. older). I did make some chit chat today with a tenant about the power going off and she actually said that it hasn't really happened much lately...kidding me we lost it 4 times in 2 weeks...guess I am use to younger homes lol. Anyway stocked up on Flashlights and batteries just in case. When he said the wires were covered in fabric is did scare me to think the fabric could be badly degraded and "shed" with the motion of the fan and spark.

I assumed some of the problems were cause of the electric company becuase the night I moved her, the big white box in front of the house (on the power line...again not an electrician so I can only explain what it looks like) started sparking like the 4th of July (kid you not....colorful loud sparks) and then boom power out. Took them about 10 hours to fix since it wasn't an emergency and they were on storm watch. Since then I don't know if they come out when the power goes. I know the other tenant said the wires outside are old.

I don't really like where I live but I don't like to ruffle feathers either so better make sure I don't miss an insurance premium :-)
