What is the name of your state? Illinois

My step-daighter recently moved in with my husband and I after not having any discipline or structure living with her Mother for 16 years. I will not go into akll the details of her behavior problems, I am more concerned with the fact that I can find no information on the internet that describes the parent's rights in regards to their child. What are we required to provide her (so I know what I can deem priviledges and take them away as needed)?

YOU have no rights. Dad does. And he is pretty free to discipline as he deems appropriate as long as it's not abusive.

So Step Parents have no rights in the state of Illinois? How does that happen if I am the one supporting her, providing medical insurance for her and keeping a roof over her head?

You're not required to do any of that. You have as many rights regarding the child as I do.

Because she is not your child PERIOD! And guess what? That goes for all other states as well.

I am a step father... I provide a roof and food... my step is 18 and is a pain in the ass... but I would guess that I could pull the plug on her privileges considering her a "tenant", correct? hey, it's my way or the hiway. Or are you saying it is my wife that has to do that?

If you were to adapt her, then that would be different.

I'd say it would be good if your wife is in agreement with your plan - unless you're willing to face her choosing her kid over you.
