What is the name of your state? Arizona
I am no longer in Arizona but found out that Phoenix, Arizona is attempting to collect on a parking ticket that is over 5-6 years old. I was unaware of the ticket until my parents got a notice a week ago. Is there a time limitation for PHX, AZ to collect?

Hi. I'm sorry I cannot offer you a definite answer but I would suggest you look into Arizona's jurisdiction on enforcing a non-criminal laws on individuals living out of state. Since they are civil minor parking tickets and it won't effect your insurance rates or reported to the dept of motor vehicle; I am not sure how adament they would be to bother you and several thousand ex-residents who have not paid parking violations. It would be really unforunate if there is a time limit and it states that if you do not respond to the violation that you are admitting responsiblity.
If that doesn't work, I think it would be helpful if you look up parking violations laws. In some states, it is necessary that you are personally given the ticket, or the ticket is placed in a very visable spot for the owner to receive... there may be a law that state that a parking ticket wouldn't be valid if you didn't receive it prior to one that was mailed.
In my personal opinion, I don't think you have very much to worry. Good luck.

Every now and then, when cities have large budget deficits, they decide to go after people with only one or two outstanding parking tickets that are several years old or more. That appears to be what happened to you. The only bad thing the city can do to you, is to turn the ticket over to a collection agency, which would be bad because the collection agency will undoutedly report the ticket as delinquent debt to the credit reporting agencies. This could cause your credit score to decline, leading to higher credit card, loan, and mortage rates, among other annoyances. In addition, the cost to pay off the debt (and consequently clear your credit report) once it is at the collection agency, will likely double. If i were you, i would probably simply pay the ticket and end the whole thing before it gets to the collection agency, if it's not already there now.
