You can note it any way you want, or not at all. Since "patent pending" provides you with no legal rights or status, there really aren't any restictions to its use, or how it's used (except that if you don't really have a patent pending, that is -- then it is ilegal).
Your widget, patent pending, or something along that line, is as good as anything.
Now, when you actually get a patent issued, how you mark your products with the actual patent numbers IS important, but at the pending stage, it is not.
