What is the name of your state? Texas

I am 24 and seven months pregnant. I have not seen the father since shortly after the conception and before I knew I was pregnant. I have not had any contact with him at all since before I found out I was pregnant.

I need info on the laws and rules about his rights. Do I have to list his name on the birth certificate? Can he be forced to give up his rights, though I've been told since he is not my husband he has limited rights already? Aslo what is the process to get him to give up rights?

Any information is greatly appericiated :)

Until paternity is proven, he has no rights. However, be aware that, should you find yourself needing state aid for the child - you will be required to discolse his name and file for child support. At which point he will be able to ask for visitation rights. You cannot simply have him give up his paternal rights - unless you have someone (as in - a spouse) who would be willing to adopt the child.

If he is unable to pay child support, he has never held a job for more then a few months so it seems unlikely he would be able to, would he still be granted visitation?

Also could rules be set for such things as leaving the child with his parents who were abusive if visitation is granted?

Support and visitation are unrelated. He would likely be ordered to pay support on a minimum wage job at least. And unless you can prove that his parents are a danger to the child, he can do as he likes on his visitation time.
