Paying child support in 2 states..

I don't know what happened... But I live in Indiana... I pay child support here for my kids... For the past year I have been paying child support in Mississippi for the same kids... I have never lived in Mississippi nor have my kids... Mississippi informed me a court order from Indiana was sent to them... Now I have Mississippi on my credit report saying I owe them 90000+...

Why have you been paying support to Mississippi if nobody involved lives in Mississippi? One would think you would contest the claim immediately yet you have paid for a year apparently without question.

I have seen this kind of thing happen before. Unfortunately, it normally takes an attorney to get it straightened out.

I've seen this happen often and it has never taken a lawyer to correct. Contact both CS agencies and send them copies of both orders, I've never seen it take longer than a couple of weeks to correct.

There have been some real horror stories on these forums over the years.

Obviously it’s possible it can be resolved easily or it may be near impossible. There is no way to know and both extremes have happened in the past.

I’m just curious why the op paid to Mississippi if nobody involved has ever had any presence in Mississippi. One would think some seemingly random contact from a state where you wouldn’t expect contact would result in questions and investigation rather than simoly sending money.

I strongly suspect op hasn’t told the entire story.

I have questioned it... They tell me the order came from Indiana... Yet Indiana tell me they didn't send anything... I got the copies of my file... Nothin in there sent to Mississippi... Now it sits on my credit reports... I have no choice but to pay when it comes directly out of my check...

Indiana has no paperwork for it... When I showed them what came from Mississippi they just say they have nothing to do with it...

It's the entire story... I been paying child support since 2000... This just came up last year telling me I owe them 3 times more than I owe in Indiana... Nothing but truth..

Indiana has no paperwork for it... When I showed them what came from Mississippi they just say they have nothing to do with it...

I did everything I could possibly do and keep my cool... They even got a fake address on my credit report for Mississippi... I googled mapped it and nothing is there...
