Correct but I just discovered the county is engaging in some shenanigans to create a "new parcel" which apparently will allow some sort of deed to be granted for the bridge. Bottom line, the letter says pay or stay off the road/bridge.

If it's done legally, then it's not "shenanigans".

The only way they can do that is if they can prove ownership. If they can prove ownership, then they're right to begin with.

They only recently became "right" - prior to that they did not own it. Still waiting to see the new parcel and exactly where it is.

I'm probably going to hate myself for asking this, but just what legal advantage do you think it will gain you to write "paid under duress" on the check? And if you don't think it's going to gain you any legal advantage, why would you even bother?

Because it will make me feel better and possibly preserve my future rights should this so-called "new parcel" smell fishy.
