Thank you for trying to help, unlike others on this thread.

Thank you for the link as well.
You're welcome, Leon. I appreciate the thanks.

Does your girlfriend have an attorney to help her with custody? How old are the children?

It is hard to argue with people who are convinced they are right despite all evidence showing they are wrong. The fact that you have no criminal record can be easily determined if this becomes a factor in court with custody.

I am not sure that anything beyond a cease and desist letter to the father should be contemplated by you right now. There are other things more important.

You have a one year statute of limitations within which you must file a defamation claim, however, so keep this in mind when considering a lawsuit.

Yes, she has an attorney who also ran a background check on me. It came up clean, but they refuse to even believe the attorney.

At least you know what sort of people you are dealing with. They are not hiding their ignorance. :)

Good luck.

My evidence of my innocence is my record straight from the courthouse. As in, I have no record at all. I've never been arrested or even in handcuffs. It does not matter to them, as they keep believing what they find on the internet.

People believe what they read on the internet all the time. Do you have an actual piece of paper from the court that says you don't have a record?

No, but her divorce attorney does. They refuse to believe her attorney as well. I've told her to tell them to meet me at the courthouse and I will gladly get them a copy. They refuse to speak to me, and they refuse to meet at the courthouse.

They have seen what they believe is good information. They didn't have to step out of their home to see this information.

It is easy to check criminal records. The father apparently does not want to accept the truth - for whatever reason.

I want to caution you, Leon, about getting too close to the center of the custody issue between your girlfriend and the children's dad. Although I understand you are being dragged into this against your will, the more involved you are personally, the more problems it can create for your girlfriend.

Good luck.

No, they do not have to step out of thier house. They continue to slander me, even with her attorney having physical proof otherwise. What they believe is of No consequence. It doesn't matter what you believe, it's what you can prove, and I have proved them to be wrong, and to be liars.

Document what you can, in case you want to pursue a legal action later.

Thanks. I'm staying as far away from that issue as I can, as legally it has nothing to do with me. It was an aside, that has no bearing on my original post that some people in this thread will not let go.
