Our cat had abdominal surgery as a kitten. Last week noticed lump on right side of abdomen. At Dr. appt. Monday x-rays revealed large mass. Exploratory surgery showed large tumor type mass surrounded by intestines and sharing blood supplies, etc..attached to body wall. Referred on to Special Surgical Center. Tuesday, exploratory surgery revealed encapsulated foreign body believed to be surgical sponge left in 3 1/2 years ago. Baseball sized mass could not be removed due to involvment of organs. Mass cleaned out as much as possible. Should we be able to submit vet. cost to Dr. that left sponge in? Approx. $2400-3000, will be our final bill. Also, due to fact they could not take out every small fiber, this could, and very possibly will occur again. Thanks for any help.

Sue whoever did this in small claims court in the county where that person lives.

file with state

First contact the vet that did the original surgery and bring with you a copy of the report from this last surgery showing what was left. Ask the vet to pay the bill(s). If the vet refuses then file a complaint with the state board of vet medicine along with a small claims case. Make sure to contact your local news stations.
