I live in England, my partner is from the USA, we were quite naive in thinking it would be easy for him to get a visa to stay on the UK when he arrived here in may however I haven't even been able to find advice let alone anything else and his tourist visa expires at the start of November. unfortunately shortly after he arrived here I was made redundant and have been struggling to find work since as a result I can not afford to buy him a plane ticket home. He has no income and also can not afford this. I suffer from an anxiety disorder and this is causing me unbelievable stress. obviously I don't want him to go back to the USA but I also don't want to get in legal trouble and I have no funds to do anything. any advice is welcome I'm at my wits end.

So is the problem that you can't afford a ticket or that you don't want him to leave? What country are you a citizen of? What about your partner?

Unfortunately this forum is for US law, so I don't know if there is any way that we can help you. I am rather surprised however that he was allowed into the UK in the first place without a round trip ticket to go home.

I understand that you do not want him to leave, but if you want him to remain in good standing with the UK he really does have to go home. Perhaps the US Embassy can help him with that?

we tried calling the US embassy when he first arrived in order to try get him a visa but I hadn't thought that maybe they could help with getting him home. I have come to realise our naivety and understand he needs to go back home and we need to follow the proper channels and he needs to apply for a visa from the USA at this point it is trying to get him back there and be aware of legal standpoints I guess.

I've seen some pretty cheap tickets online, some even less than $300. You two can't scrape together that much? Maybe even use a credit card?

oh wow the cheapest I have found are over 1000
You can't afford to get married? How much are the marriage licenses in the UK?
we can only get a marriage licence in one part of the UK as he is not a British citizen it is about 500 to book there plus travel expenses plus I guess I think actually getting married is a huge decision and I'm not sure I'm ready for that
