What a pathetic post by a pathetic person. The ONLY thing you're worried about is money and nothing more! You're clueless. Let me guess: you're one of those people who are thinking 'we only did it once...how can I be pregnant?"

If you've "always been broke", then you have some serious problems that just became alot worse now that you're pregnant. You MUST go out and get a decent paying job. You "always being broke" will not fly with the Support Officer & will gain zero sympathy from anyone in the child support office.

The guy is under zero legal obligation to give you squat. You're simply trying to extort money from him because of your financial situation. It's YOUR fault you're poor -- not him.

You want to do what's in the best interest of the child? Look into the option of PUTTING THE CHILD UP FOR ADOPTION!!

You definitely can not afford to support the child. That's obvious. It's not fair to the child to live in poverty because you're naive. Let someone else out there who can raise it and give it a good, healthy, stable environment.
The fact that Poster hasnt came back to defend herself shows her level of maturity. She hasnt even came back to "enlighten'" us. I hope she proves us all wrong and that baby has a decent shot at a good life.

The poster is too busy shacking up with the next loser....the more kids she has the more $$ she can get......she's a typical uneducated, welfare recipient. Who want's to bet she's a welfare kid herself???

I am not 19

Arizona

Okay, here is the scoop on Child Support / Paternity. I am presently (and patiently) awaiting the fine court system in AZ to get results. I am not 19; however, five months ago I gave birth to a daugher. I heard ever story in the book from the FOB - he is sterile, it isn't his, yadda yadda... but he sure put up a fight when I told him I was pregnant. Yes, MN may have different laws then AZ, but try to relax. You really do not have to do much in the way of actually persueing child support as Child Support Enforcement (CSE) will do that for you. Keep in mind it is a long drawn out process so it will not happen overnight. In the meantime, there are some things you can do.... If you know his full name, last known address, and birth date you can have a social security number pulled. This will cost but whatever information you can provide to CSE will be a great help. If you do not have the money to run a soical do not panic. CSE can do that for you. It is very difficult to get a job at 6 months pregnant, but it can be done. As mean as some of the previous responses were - they are correct. The support you may receive is for the baby. If you do not have medical seek assistance from the state. Come on people, that is what the system is designed for. Paternity does have to be established before a Child Support Order can be pursued. Paternity tests cannot be done until the baby is born and is at least one month of age. Unless FOB volunteers or acknowledges he is the father, genetic testing is court ordered. First there is a motion for testing (in AZ the FOB is given 20 days) should he not respond then he may be given additonal days. Should he respond then an order for testing is done and a date is set. In AZ, the FOB is given two chances to show. A default of paternity can be entered for these reasons: no response and no show for testing. You are the lucky one. Your FOB has a job so once paternity is established and a Child Support Order is granted - wage garnishment can begin. My FOB just had is home foreclosed and is self-employed. Wish me luck! Again, nothing can be done until the baby is born. Breathe, relax, and talk to the state about assistance for you in the meantime. You are bringing another life into this world so you need to be heathy for him or her.

MominNJ: "As soon as the baby is born, go to your local child support office and put in an application. I'm not familiar with MN laws regarding child support (GO TO http://www.divorcesource.com) and ask specifically about your state. THE PEOPLE ARE MUCH NICER THERE!
After a paternity test confirms he is the father, he will have to start paying you support. Every state has guidelines for child support. I couldn't guess the amount it would be, but again try asking the NICE people in the divorce source website."

And no one there knows a damn about any law whatsoever. Go ahead, ask for help and you'll get a lot of "I think..." and "In my state, which is not yours, I think..." nonsense, the vast majority of which is entirely incorrect.

Or, if you're really unlucky, the posters just offer straight BS with no *kindly* preface such as, "I dunno, but..."

And icelyn along with mominnj -- The OP is in MN. That has nothing to do with AZ or NJ. If you want to help, look up MN laws for the OP.

All that from someone with NO LEGAL EXPERTISE.
Thank you.
Ok so all the lawyers in here feel free to jump right in, now!! Anyone?? Thought so.

I've been over to divorcesource on numerous occasions. And it's no nicer or better than other sites, including this one. Actually, there is one (which is "nicer" because it's moderated) that offers pretty solid legal advice due to the number of lawyers posting. Maybe you'll find it someday.

The girl was asking for advice... whether she is in MN or Neverland... I am sure some of what mominnj and myself said could help her. At least it gives her options. It is up to her to follow through. And honey, I do know the law in AZ as I am currently being exposed to it daily regarding my daughter's father. The best advice I can give to you is to go hound some other conversation.

I do think you have now helped the OP with useful advice. ;)

However, I am not your "honey," and I never said you didn't know AZ law. I merely stated that it was not applicable to the OP in MN.

I've been to divorcesource too.. and they aren't acurate. They in fact said that CS could be dismissed in bankrupsy. But by all means let's sent the OP there!!!
