I am sorry for your loss. It sounds like you have been through the ringer with your ex. He sounds very abusive and controlling.

If the school and child protective services are recommending counseling, you should do it despite your ex's objections. Just because he keeps saying no does not mean you can't do it.

Call your local domestic violence shelter. Most offer free counseling for adults and children.

My father passed away last night and He never got to see his grandchildren. Thank you all for answering my questions. I am not going to take my children to AZ for the funeral its not something I want to expose my children to.

Sorry to hear your father died. You might be able to compromise by taking your children to AZ but not to the funeral itself.

It's a personal decision whether to take the children to the funeral or not. My children definitely attended the funerals of their grandparents - and they were very small when their granddad died. There are ways of explaining this to young children.

As for the counseling though, it is possible to get a judge to order it. I suspect dad is saying no because couselour are MANDATED reporters. Just a feeling.

If child protective services is recommending it - jump all over it. What is dad going to say to the judge? I don't care that they are recommending it. I said, "NO." Won't fly.

I can't imagine what you are going through, I've lost family (grandparents who helped raise me), but not my parents. I am so sorry for your loss.
