What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Louisiana
I was in Shreveport City Court the other day as a witness for a friend . I am a Disabled Veteran . We sat in court in recess for an hour only for the city marshal to call my friend up and let him know his case was being postponed for another date. The Judge was never there. Now this deputy City Marshal has had a hardon for me for a while. He has made it a point to harass me every time I had to come to this courthouse. He is angry because The former city Marshall told me nobody has ever beat them in a case and i did. I actually caught corruption going on in the city Marshall's office. Nothing was done, The former city Marshall just bowed out before he could be prosecuted for Malfeasance of Office. but this time i was ready for him . when my friend got his notice for a continuance and was told he could leave we all got up together and departed, me and him and another witness. as we went out of the court room, this deputy city marshal dropped all his business made it a point to follow me out of the court room and started shouting at me, "SIR, SIR, I NOTICED YOU ARE NOT USING YOUR CANE, I CONSIDER IT A WEAPON, EXIT THE COURT ROOM AND COURT HOUSE AND LEAVE THIS COURT HOUSE IMMEDIATELY, OR I WILL ARREST YOU. DO NOT RETURN BACK IN HERE, WITH YOUR CANE. "
I told him I was a disabled veteran and he knows this, I told him " I am a disabled veteran and I have a prescription for my cane " and he said " WELL WHY DONT YOU USE IT " ? NEVERTHELESS LESS , I left the courtroom area and went down to the city marshal's office and made a oral complaint of what happened and requested to speak to the city marshal and he would not speak to me but instead the assistant to the city marshal who said he was the deputy's supervisor listened to my complaint . He told me in so many words that they were not there to determine who needs walkers, canes, or etc. and that i can come back anytime with my cane. Nevertheless the damage has been done . I suffered from harassment and intimidation and will never feel comfortable going into that courthouse again.
The Legal Question ? What legal rights has this deputy city Marshall violated ?
what civil rights have I been deprived of ??
Can I sue this deputy city marshal and this city court entity for Harassment ?
what else can I sue for ????What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

I honestly don't see any civil rights violations here. You were not deprived of life, liberty, or property.

Had you stuck around and gotten yourself arrested, you may have had a case. Freedom from harassment is not a civil right that I'm aware of.

so, was he aware you had a prescription for the cane prior to the comment. By your telling, he stopped his demands once you made the statement that you do have a prescription (although not sure why one would need a scrip for a cane though).

a cane most certainly could be considered a weapon and if it were not required, I can absolutely understand the restriction.

what civil rights have I been deprived of ?
None that I can see. He told you not to bring it to the courthouse, you educated the man, he apparently stopped his demand, you were subsequently told you could enter with the cane.

I just don't see where you were deprived of any rights.

for some reason I have a hard time believing this especially considering your situation with the prior Marshall and your pursuit of justice in that matter. I would suspect you actually look forward to your next opportunity to be in the courthouse if only to rile this deputy ESPECIALLY since it is obvious you want to sue anybody you can.

Again, based on your rendition, you were harassed no more than any other citizen would be when the rules are being enforced. He intimidated you how? By telling your to not carry in a possible weapon? and again, once you educated the man on your medical need for the cane, it appears he dropped the subject.
