Your speed bump cannot be installed without authorization from the Director of Public Works and/or the County of San Diego Board of Supervisors, and the speed bump design needs to be approved, with input from your local fire district.

Can you tell us where, in that 20 page document that you locate the information about speed bumps. I cannot find anything relevant in skimming the pages, and I don't have time to read all of them thoroughly.

OP, the relevant information for you is on page 12 and is the last paragraph on that page. It generally discourages speed control devices, like speed bumps, because they interfere with emergency vehicles. Therefore any such device requires the approval of the public works, and can be vetoed entirely by the local fire protection division.

THe fire department emergency access approval or recommendations may be important ...and OP may have addressed thier recommendations ..not entirely clear.
I'm not sure County need approve private bumps on private property ...but I do see a point of making mine no more aggressive than the approved ones

I missed the section cited and stand corrected....OP you would be wise to make sure your private bump is approved in writing by one of the agencies cited on page 12 .....otherwise you may be a sitting duck liability wise or anyone who hits an unapproved bump even if ultra well marked and completely within prevailing standards of other approved ones.

Yes. It could be "ouch" if the speed bump is not properly authorized, especially if one or more of your five neighbors complains about the speed bump or if the bump damages their cars or harms them in some way.

I recommend you get the bump approved soon if you have already installed it - and be prepared to remove the bump should it not be authorized. Any sign that is erected will need to be regulation.
