What is the name of your state?Ca
Does anyone know if there is a govering body that oversees the probation department. What about a governing body over judges. is it legal for a judge to refuse your right to a lawyer while you are in court. What can you do if you ask for a lawyer and the judge refuses. I really need to pick someones brain - Please!

Let's start with this: Why were you denied a lawyer by the judge? Do you mean a public defender? Perhaps you did not meet the guidelines. But you could hire your own lawyer?

Yes. The probation 'department' has a 'Chief Probation Officer' or 'Division Director' who is responsible for the management of the agency within his/her county.

Yes, there is usually a Chief Justice for the judicial agency involved.

Yes, there are circumstances where the judge is clearly within his/her power to refuse your 'request' for an attorney.

What can you do if you ask for a lawyer and the judge refuses.
That depends on the specifics at the time. Care to elaborate??
