Pulled over for not having registration, somehow ended up getting searched.

I'm a foreigner, I came here when I was six so I had to learn most things about America by myself, no knowledge about American law was passed down to me.

I know I don't understand the system very well which is why I'm trying ask as many questions as possible to see what my real options are.


Everyone seems to say my only chance is getting a lawyer. I understand this, the lawyer is the last option if my plea bargain does not work. The cop said he'd work with me and the prosecutor. I was generally very polite to him so I think it might work if he is not a heartless *******.

But I think he wants the fine money really badly... both the prosecutor and the cop. Badly enough to ruin my life.


Also side question, if I hire a lawyer, I'll still most likely have to pay a fine? There is no way the charge will get dropped, is there?

Well, if I tried to fight it and lost I think it's fair to say my life would be screwed and I'd be stuck being a poor person unless I make an artistic masterpiece or something.

I'm thankful you guys have been very frank, direct, and realistic with me. I now realize what I feared all along, I'm at the mercy of the officer and prosecutor which is killing me inside. I feel like a little child is dying a really brutal death inside of me right now.

I would appreciate some hypothetical theories on combating marijuana laws through the judicial branch, but I guess the thread is dead otherwise. Unfortunately the most I can do now is call my lawmakers and ask them to legalize it, but I've never done it before and don't know how. (Any tips on how to lobby lol?)

I think I'll ask my friends to do the same if the process is easy. I'll make an easy to understand graphic and try to spread it on the internet... *sigh* sooooooo pissed

Dude, if this is enough to get you to contemplate suicide, I suggest in addition to an attorney, that you also seek the services of a mental health pratictioner.

Why? The idea of ridding our society of a stoner is appealing to me.

and one more thing---the officer and the prosecutor couldn't give a flying ferret fart about you. There actions are not personal. They probably see 10 cases like yours a week.
