I'm having problems getting my wife to switch the utilities into her name. We are separated and I've been after her to get this done for almost 6 weeks. I have kept everything up to date but I'm tired of having to pay utilities for a house I don't live in. I've checked with the local utility providers and they say there is nothing preventing me from having them turned off. I don't want it to come to that but I'm getting there. My wife claims that she checked and was told that I can't shut them off because there is a disabled child in the home (not my child). All I want her to do is switch them into her name. Her income is approximately the same as mine so that should not be an issue. Can someone tell me if there is such a law in Indiana, and if so how can they force me to keep paying utilities for a home I don't live in?
