What is the name of your state? Maryland

We are about 6 months into our 5 year Chapter 13 plan. So far no problems. I have a question about my checking account though. We have had our checking account for over 20 years now. We have never had any returned checks, no overdrafts, nothing. We have always been a good customer. My question is this. We have had our checking account debit card with the Visa logo on it, for several years now with no problems. We actually have a few utility bills set up each month to be withdrawn automatically using our debit card accout. Our debit card has an expiration date of 3/2004. Will the bank continue to allow us to keep this card? Or, does the banks run credit reports right before the expiration date? If they do this, they will see we are in bankruptcy. Will being in bankruptcy cause them to cancel our debit card even though our bank has not had any problems whatsoever with our checking account? I am very scared and I do not want to call the bank and ask them this because I am certain they will want my name and account number before they answer any questions.

Are checking/debit cards only given to customers that have good credit?

Your help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS. The name of the bank is Sun National Bank

Thank you very much.

We're in the 8th month of a 5 yr Ch 13 - 100% plan and filed on a $5k cc from the same bank that we have our checking account and debit card with. Also been with that bank for 10 years. Never had a problem with the debit card. If you had overdraft protection, it may be gone now, but as long as you keep a balance in the account you should be able to keep access with your debit card.

After filing I also opened a savings/checking account with our credit union and was issued a Visa-labled debit card, and they knew about my Bk.

I don't think it will have any bearing on you getting another debit card, or that one renewed. They will look at your history. I am surprised at Elmo's statement though because if your filed bankrupty on the same bank that your checking account is with you must have been very lucky that they didn't empty it for you. That can be very dangerous.

The plan's 100% payback to unsecured may have been a factor. They were also amoung the first to file a proof of claim last September. This was a Bank of America branch in an uppidy suburb of Houston, so it's not like they were neighbors I grew up with.

I think it's like djohnson said, if you don't have a history of overdrafts and have used the account responsibly, there shouldn't be any problems.
