What is the name of your state?Texas, I'm looking for information on the rights of a child. How old does the child have to be to say which parent she or he would like to live with. I have heard 12 then I have heard 13.

You do realize that the judge will only listen to the child. Just because the child says he/she wasnts to live with a parent doesnt mean they get to..They dont make the decision. Judge will do what is in the best interest of the child.

i heard thirteen but i think that is the age to where the child is considered to be more mature i know that is the age to where the child can stay home for short lengths of time. i work with a grandfather and he keeps saying when his grandson turns thirteen they are going for it but i think the judge will just listen and maybe make a modification in the order

as snowy said - 18. Under that, a judge may listen to the child's wishes, but is not bound to give any specific weight to them when making a decision.
