You should still take things to your daughter that you know she needs, such as the items you mentioned, even before your ex-girlfriend files for child support. Most likely you will be ordered to pay support from the date she files, so any monies that you give her once she files should be in the form of some type of check marked child support so you get credit for those payments.

You know, I always did wonder this. I was on aid for 6 months, right before and right after my pregnancy. Boy oh boy, did they go after the father with a vengeance. Just went in and emptied his bank account--left him negative. But they never asked me for a dime. It does not seem fair really.

Addition: I really could have paid. At least half.

Dad just 'heard from someone' that the state would hold him responsible for mom's medical bills. I very seriously doubt that he will be. Any expenses related to the child, yes. But expenses for mom's pregnancy when he's not even the father until after the baby's born? Highly doubtful.

OP ~ Request a DNA test.

DNA test will come. I called the court offices in the counties in both states and the lady on the phone told me that I would be responsible. I said "heard from somebody" because it was awhlie ago and I couldn't remember the name of the office that told me that.

Yes I was planning on taking items there from the day she moves out, until the day she files. Then I was going to switch it over to checks with a memo in the memo field.

Well unfortunatly my school district is rated one of the best in Ohio but my daughters mom wants to send her to a private Catholic school, which I don't agree with.

This definatly is something we will have to work out when the time comes.

The judge will probably let mom do that, as long as she is willing to pay for it herself.

See, this is why I am so worried about this whole situation. Right now I can barely afford to make house payment, utilities, and car payment. If something like this happened I would be in huge financial trouble. I'm going to have a hard enough time paying whatever the child support will be.

What does that have to do, philosophically, with the concept that ONLY the male parent is being made responsible for a pregnancy that was created JOINTLY?

Hey...I am just explaining why...I am not saying that I necessarily agree. However, in this case they wouldn't have qualified had they been married....and there would have been alternate insurance to cover the pregnancy.

Personally, I think that's the unwritten reason behind the whole thing. I think the government wants people to get married or otherwise provide medical coverage, so that the government doesn't have to pick up the tab.

Well, I know plenty of unmarried women who had complete medical coverage, including maternity. I still don't get why, when the government picks up the tab ONLY dad whould be responsible for reimbursement. Dad couldn't make a baby alone.

A women need not be married to acquire proper and complete health insurance.

My insurance covered my whole pregnancy.

Of course, in my state, being on medicaid isn't even enough to prompt CSE to pursue dad for CS. You have to be on cash assistance for them to become interested in recouping their loss. I suppose I thought most states were that way, and medical was a wash.

No, but she needs to either have employment that provides that insurance, or private means to pay for it herself......and unfortunately a huge segment of the population in this country is without medical insurance.

Nope...there are males as well. However, private medical insurance for males is dramatically cheaper than for females, because of the issue of pregnancy and other female issues. Therefore more males can afford it than females. Whether or not more males actually purchase the private insurance is something I don't know.

If you are interested go run an online quote and compare the numbers. Use males and females of an identical age. You will be amazed.

I used to be an employer but I was too small for group insurance. Therefore I purchased a private policy for each of my employees. It was major medical only. I could insure a healthy 20 year old male for 80 bucks a month, but a healthy 20 year old female cost me twice that. That was about 8 years back, so I am sure the numbers are somewhat different now...but that was just to give you an idea.

OP, march into your county court (guessing you would be in Sandusky or thereabouts) and file for a paternity test (if you didn't sign the AOP at birth), custody, and child support. Ask for the court to force mom to return the child to Ohio or at leats return the child to you. Why do you assume that mom gets to take the child out of state just because? If you wait six months and mom files in Michigan then MIchigan will have jurisidiction. If you file now then Ohio will have jurisdiction.
Moms do pay child support to dads in Ohio. Some couples pay no child support to each other in Ohio. Some dads get full custody or primary custody in Ohio -- even of infants. Especially if mom wants to cut and run.

Considering that the state hasn't been concerned about being reimbursed for the medical expenses relating to the birth of the child for the past 2 1/2 YEARS, I seriously doubt that they will do anything about it now. When the state feels as though reimbursement is warranted, they typically waste no time trying to collect.

Please follow Ohiogal's advice she is an Ohio Attorney. The sooner you establish Ohio jurisdiction, the better and wait to pay any child support until there is a court order, save that money in an account in case you are required to pay for mom's birthing expenses, There is no reason she can't find employment while living with her parents or continue her current employment since the distance is only 30 miles apart. Where was the child born?
