Dui Record
How Long? Depends on your State law. Some states it's for life, other states it can be anywhere from about 7 to 10 years.
As far as getting in to Cananda goes, you may be in trouble. Canada has one of the most strictest DUI standards out there. They do background checks at customs. The background check probably looks for your record at the State level. In many states, your record shows up only at the county level.
But you're going be asked if you've ever been arrested and what for. So, you could lie and hope your record doesn't show up. If it did, and you lied, I'm not sure what they'd do with you.
I talked with the Canadian consulate about this. They said if your DUI happened within a year, it's extremely unlikely you'll get in. After 5 years, you can apply for what they call something like an "application for rehabilitation"
Wait a year, then contact the consulate and apply for a temporary VISA. YOu won't get in just going through customs. Have your ducks in a row. You'll need proof of completion of alchohol treatment, and as many letters of recommendation as possible, including one from your probation officer and alchohol treatment director.
