Re:broken lease

What is the name of your state? Illinois
Reply to Paul Bernstein's post, thanks for responding.
1) date of rental/original lease: 5/1/2001, renewal 5/1/2002 ending 4/30/03.
2) location: affluent Northern suburb of Chicago
3) approx. 30 or more units in building
4) deposit $750
5) paid by personal check
6) "modern convenience" issues like no light switch or outlet in bathroom,
problems with entry door (you could see into my unit) and lock (I soon got
locked out-the lock got stuck or something-and I had to spend the night in
a hotel, electrical problems-shorts, etc., frequent "plumbing emergencies"
water pipe breaks, water was shut off without notice, rust backing up into
bathtub, no security-exterior doors left wide open, etc.
7) landlord is a property management company in Chicago. I found this apt.
in an advertisement.

I never received interest on my security deposit, in fact, they demanded more
money, the difference of the new rent from the previous rent, with my lease
renewal.
