What is the name of your state? Pennsylvania

I was honorably discharged back in 1992. I never received any of the awards I was supposed to from my time spent in the Persian Gulf during 90/91. They are noted on my DD-214 but were never physically handed to me.

I have discovered that the unit I was attached to (a surface vessel) was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon for operations on 25-26 Feb 91. While I was aboard during this time frame, this award is not listed on my DD-214. Am I legally permitted to wear this award or do I need to somehow have my service record corrected?

Thank you for any help.

Can you verify your discovery by way of the Branch of the Military you were in? Or by way of the Secretary of Defense?

Unless it is in your DD214 you cannot wear the ribbon. Shoud be easy enough to amend this, however. I would suggest taking your current DD214 and supporting documentation to your local Naval or Naval Reserve station. Ask to speak to a PN or YN - they shoud be able to help you correct this. Good luck.

I could probably find evidence to support what I've learned. I recently got in touch with an old shipmate who has remained in the service (and made Master Chief I am happy to report!) that the unit (USS Guam) was awarded the ribbon. I have also seen it mentioned on various websites.

If I ever decide to claim it I will make sure to have my record amended first.
