i was rear ended on the bay bridge when traffic came to a stop. I got the other drivers insurance info but the san francisco fire department made us get off the bridge prior to chp arriving. Do I need a police report?
I went to the doctor for neck and back injuries. I'm not sure what steps to take to get compensation for my injuries and reimbursement for my medical bills. My policy does not include medical coverage.

Contact the other party's insurance company to make sure they reported the accident. If not, report it.

A police report after the fact is probably a waste of your time. In most cases, the police will simply write down your version of what happened, clearly stating that it is your version of what happened. They typically will not do any type of investigation, or even contact the other person for their statement. Especially a busy area like SF.

You will not be offered any reimbursement for your medical bills, etc. until you have COMPLETED your treatment and are ready to settle your claim. At that time, the other insurance company will want to review your medical bills and records. Then they will make a settlement offer, if the damages to the vehicles involved indicate the mechanism for injury was present. If you have health insurance, you may want to let them handle this for now.
