reassignment of security deposit

What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

Is there a specific form or wording I should be using to assign my security deposit to the person who is subletting from me? I gave a security deposit to the landlord when I moved in, this person gave me an equal security deposit when he moved in. Both are in separate interest-bearing accounts. Rather than wait for the landlord to return my deposit to me and see if there is anything taken out for damage I would just like to have the landlord return my deposit directly to the sublesee...including any interest earned. I would then keep his deposit.

Why dont you see if the LL will allow the subletor to sign a new lease with him/her and give you a written cancelation of the current lease , then your off the hook and its done with .

LL not interested in signing a new lease. The current lease is up at the end of the month. The LL has refused to acknowledge the form that my sublessor and I signed to reassign my deposit to him. Can she do that? I was under the impression that I can assign my deposit to whomever I chose.

Your landlord is under no obligation to transfer the deposit to someone elses name.

Simply, give your 'sublessee' a written statement that you transfer ownership of the deposit described (amount, date, given to who, etc.) to (name of sublessee).

Date it, sign it and give a copy to your landlord and a copy to the sublessee. In the event that the landlord forwards any remaining deposit to you, simply endorse it and hand it over to your sublessee.
Make sure that the landlord and sublessee have your contact information (address, phone, etc.).
