May husband passed away in 2000. I filed a joint return for 2000.
The rebates are calculated on the 2000 return. My letter says I will receive $600. The envelope was addressed to my husband's name, with Dec'd after it, and my name, so they are aware of his death. Will I have to return the $300?? Haven't been able to get through to the IRS for an answer. Nothing that IRS has on the internet about rebates addresses this situation. Thanks, in advance.

You will not have to return the rebate to the IRS. However, it is the property of your husband’s estate. So if you are entitled to the assets of the estate, you are entitled to the rebate. Otherwise, the heirs of your husband are entitled to it.
