I purchased my home 12/02 with mortgage co A, they in turn sold the loan to mortgage co B. After a year, I refinanced my mortgage. mortgage co B sent me a realease stating i was paid in full with them and listed mortgage co A as original mortgage co.

Now mortgage co A has been sending me bills for $21,000! When I called them, they said I owe them a mortgage payment of $904 to replace a check that was returned by the bank. They told me to send them that payment and they would wipe out all the late charges. Feeling intimidated after receiving a bill for $21,000, I comply with their request and send them $904. Now I receive another bill for $21,000 and call them explaining I sent them what they asked for why another bill for $21,000? Now they are saying I owe them another mortgage payment!

I explain again, that I refinanced my mortgage and owe them nothing as the loan was paid in full and I have a legal document in my hands showing that. Why don't they get it? Am I wrong? What can I do?

**A: contact the escrow or closing company and have them review the payoff figures. Request the info from the mortgage company in writing explaining how the $21K was arrived.

Sounds kind of shady, make a confirmation that it is in fact the mortgage company, and not someone fraudulently stating they are the mortgage company, just my two cents. You can contact the new mortgage company and have them send you a letter that they bought the loan, send a copy to original lender with a letter form you saying here is your proof and to leave you alone.

It's not Americorp is it? Just wondering...we've been having shady stuff like this from them too, such as changing our loan terms 2 months after closing.

No, it is E-Loan. I know it is definately a mortgage company as I have been calling them to straighten this out.

**A: dig further as that company is mainly an originator.

What do you mean ....dig further?.....how? E-Loan sold the mortgage to Washington Mutual. E-Loan states I owe them payments for Feb and March. Payments started with Washington Mutal in April.

I refinanced my mortgage a year later, so all that was due on the original loan should have been paid. Washington Mutual sent me a release and listed E-Loan as the original mortgagee. I faxed this to E-Loan. I also explained that this loan was paid in full regardless of what they felt I owed them for Feb and March. That is completely irrelevant at this point because the loan was paid in full. What else can I do?
