Hello New Yorkers
I have heard that New York is the only state with tenent laws.
That's a good thing for honest people. I also have heard passersby talking about 'beating the system'.
ie "After X amount of months if I don't pay rent, they can't throw me out ! It's the law dude !"
Does anyone on this board who owns and rents her/his NY condo as an income earner that knows of these matters ?
As an owner can you set and enforce your own rules in a lease?
What are the tenant laws anyhow ? Perhaps someone can tell me where to find NY tenant laws online ?

Thanks

I don't really know how to answer this post... It is really a weird bunch of questions.

Do a search engine search on New york landlord tenant laws.
Heck do a search engine search on any state, they all have tenant rights.
It is harder to get some tenants out of dwellings in one state over another.
ANd NO you can't make up your own rules for your Lease/rental agreement. you must abide by the statutes of the state.
A search engine is a terrible thing to waste.
I was going to be tacky and post all 50 states LL/Tenant rights, including New York... but its not worth my time... Your questions, in my opinion were to general and to tell you the truth, awfully dumb.

NY State laws

Read those.

If you plan on being a landlord, go to your local bookstore and hit the section that has "Idiots Guide to Being a Landlord" and read it, along with every other book on that shelf.
