What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Michigan. What is the best way to return property you believe was stolen. Have situation where someone purchased property that they might have known was stolen and then I found it in my house. What are the consequences for the person who purchased it, if they knew it was stolen. Do the courts use replacement cost of property or present value. Items were laptops, that look to be a few years old. Don't know who they belong to.

If someone knowingly purchases stolen property they can be charged with a felony crime. If the property is in your posession, contact your local law enforcement and advise them of the situation. Turn the property over to them. They can check on wheather it is in fact stolen and take appropriate action.
