What is the name of your state? LA

I am the domicile parent of my 6 yr old. The custody papers state that the father's visitation is every other weekend, and 2 weeks in summer. Can there be exceptions to this? I'm planning a vacation- he insist that the child can not be gone on his weekend. I have offered an additional weekend in the summer or time during the week before the vacation begins. He is not budging! Is it possible for me to override him? If no dates are specified in the papers, how do the courts know when the "everyother weekend" begins and ends. It's not that I don't want him to see the child- I just want to take a vacation that uses a specific saturday to saturday schedule for the hotel--- He's making a fun vacation very difficult! Please Help!

How do you know what weekends are every other weekend ?

If the visitations have been established , you know .

Also , no You can not unilaterally over ride a Court's orders .

Difficult as it may seem to you , that is that Parent's time , not yours .

If he doesn't agree, you can take it to mediation or court to get the time you want.

It really bites when you can't get along with your ex enough to switch weekends or anything...

I had a really good deal on a vacation to disneyland for the kids and tried to switch a weekend with their dad to do it... and he said NO!

Even though he didnt have plans... I was like... well, the kids will be able to go to disneyland and he said... oh well, its my weekend. Sorry.

Would be nice if some parents try being parents because they really want to be there for their kids and want the best for them in life... and not just because it is their "right".
