I just moved into a 1930's building yesterday into a newly renovated apartment on the 4th floor. During my move yesterday, I had to kill already 5 roaches. Then, this morning, I had to kill another two. I requested my landlord to bomb the place to stop the problem before it gets out of hand, but I am worried that the building is infested with roaches. If this is the case, what are my options? It's causing insomnia.... I'm terrified. Thanks.

UPDATE: I live in Koreatown, Los Angeles, CA

Roaches are a fact of life. They were here before mankind and they will be here long after mankind is extinct.

Even if the LL bombs the place you may still have them.

I suggest you find the nearest DIY pest control store and get the appropriate chemicals for doing your own pest control frequently. It's ultimately up to you to convince the roaches to stay out of your place.

First, ask your landlord to fix the situation.

It's best if it's in writing, but do it soon. Take pictures of the bugs for your own records, keep records of everything, then if it doesn't get fixed, you can contact a tenant's rights organization if you're unsure as how to proceed.

AJ, I agree with you (mostly). But it really depends on just how many of the little buggers there are. A few roaches in CA? That's to be expected. But if there's an infestation, then that's a different matter.

Get some boric acid powder. Sprinkle it in the back of your cupboards, along all the baseboards, in any cracks and crevices in the floor, etc.

The first apartment my husband and I lived in together turned out to be horribly roach infested. Boric acid was the only thing that worked.

Unfortunately, in an apartment complex, you're often stuck dealing with other tenants' poor housekeeping and bug infestations.

UPDATE:
The landlord bombed the place Friday from 12-4 pm and when I got home at 6pm, there were even more roaches. I killed 10 during the two hours I was home. I told my manager, send him photos of before and after the kill. I haven’t stayed because it’s not habitable.
