Two people are both listed on the lease for an apartment. One room mate leaves to live in another location but is still on the lease and had the key. The other room mate pays the rent for the month, thinking the first room mate will be clearing out in the beginning of the month, but he doesn’t clean his things out till the 29th of the month. Is he responsible for paying his half of the rent for that month?

Sorry, this forum is for U.S. law matters only. Since you chose to delete the question asking for your state, I'll assume that you are not in the U.S.

If the roommate is a signator on the lease, he is responsible for paying the rent for the entire lease term - unless the landlord removed him from the lease.

Agree with above....at very least the RM is responsible for that full month....and it is quite likely that he remains liable for his full share of balance of lease until and unless an alternate lease is executed by all parties to original lease.
