What is the name of your state? Michigan

I dont know if this really fits under this category, but it seems the closest.

I am pretty sure my roomate is selling drugs out of our house. I have had a few people ask me who these people are at my house because there seems to always be a different car at my house everyday. THen the other day I noticed on his dresser a bag of weed with a large bundle of cash, so I put two and two together.

Now I am putting my foot down. I dont really know the kid, he is a friend of one of my other roomates. So I plan on confronting him and telling him to get the **** out of the house or I am going to the police.

Now here is the question, if he takes my offer and leaves, would there be any punishment to me since I knew (or believe he is, Ive never been around when he did it) he sold drugs and didnt go to the police about it?

Pretty much what I am asking is should I give him the option of leaving or should I just go straight to the police? And also, do I have good reason to believe he is selling?

Thanks for your time and sorry if this is in the wrong category.

That doesn't sound right to me. If he is the one to file the report, why would the police try screw him over? Are there any cops on the forum that can confirm this?

Some details are not clear in the OP: Is the guy dealing your roommate or a friend of his? Do you own this house and he is renting from you, do you jointly own it, or do you all rent from a landlord?

Speculative Answer: It is not illegal to fail to report criminal activities to authorities. Further, simply knowing that it 'might' be occurring does not make you an accomplice or an accessory. Ask him to leave; if he goes...it is the end of the issue. If he refuses, he may just clean up his act knowing you are onto him. If you can live with that great, if not, getting him out of the house is a separate issue that depends heavily on the questions above.

Thanks for the replies, so far we've confronted him and he denied it, but it's still a shi*tty situation.

But I'll try and be more clear....

Originally, three of us all signed a house. We are in a college town so it was through a rental company. Well one of my roomates dropped out of college, and decided to sub-lease his room out to someone he knew, so we all rent from a landlord.

We pretty much told him we believe you're selling because of the cash, weed, and different cars around. I've asked the people who claimed so see cars there a lot to fill me in if they see more, and they say no. So either he stopped doing it, or he is just being more careful about it.

I'm still worried about it though because if he gets busted for it, I'm worried about somehow being dragged down with him. So my other roomate and I are discussing maybe just going to our landlord and let him deal with it.

I dont know, the whole situation is just BS and I'm pretty pissed at our original roomate, who dropped out, for leasing the damn room to someone we didnt really know too well.

Does your lease allow subletting? If not, you can try getting the landlord involved to convince the guy to move out.

In the meantime, lock up any financial records, credit cards, etc that may be used by this "roomie" after he leaves.

I had a friend Cathy who had a roomie found through the newspaper. One day Cathy asked to borrow a lipstick and was told to just get it from her roomie's drawer. Well there in the drawer with the lipstick was a scrap of paper with Cathy's SSN, mother maiden's name and three credit card numbers.

Never live with people you don't trust.
