What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?I work at a Pizza Hut Express in a truckstop in California. Recently one of our dishwashers got promoted to lead and was sent to Texas for training. He came back with a million new rules and an additute. The new rules have caused me to have to relearn how to do just about everything.

At Pizza Hut Express only one person works during a shift. For the past two weeks I have been working morning shifts and my new lead manager (I'll call him "Bob") comes in after me and works the night shift.

Following all the new rules has been very difficult. We cook personal pizzas and put them on a "hot hold" where they are good for 20 minutes. That way, people can walk up an buy a pizza that has already been cooked and they dont have to wait for it. We used to keep about 3 or 4 pizzas on the hot hold at a time. Now, they want us to have at least 8 on there at all times. In order to do so, I have to constantly keep making more pizzas and putting them in the oven. As soon as some come out, I have to put more in to keep the hot hold full. This leaves me very little time to get any side work done, like restocking, taking out boxes and garbage, making sauces, etc. I try very hard to get everything done before "Bob" gets there, but it is difficult. I have however been successful in keeping the hot hold full and in doing so I have nearly double the profit during my shift.

But, when Bob gets there, all he sees is the things I haven't had a chance to do yet. He gets angry and yells at me for it. Also, lately when I come in in the mornings I have found the dough that Bob had left for me from the night before is bad or has been overproofed, in other words unuseable. I was told to let Bob know about it when he comes in, but when I go to talk to him about it, he snaps my head off before I can get all the words out of my mouth. He's my manager, but he won't listen to anything I say.

On top of that, he has decided that I should be washing my own dishes in mornings. We have a dishwasher, but she has to wash the dishes for the resturant next to us as well, so he feels that pizza hut should wash their own dishes. I can't make him understand that keeping the hot hold full keeps me very very busy and I have no spare time to wash dishes. Besides the fact that it's always been a rule that the Pizza Hut person has to be up front at all times to help a costumer as soon as they walk up. If i'm in the back washing dishes, I can't be watching for custumers!

Bob has been getting meaner and meaner with me. Just he other day, he came in and was talking to someone when he said really loud, "The Pizza Hut employees should be washing their own dishes. Exspecailly CATTRA (me), I KNOW she has the time and I KNOW she can do it. She just WONT!" He said this knowing that i was stand 3 feet behind him.

He does not work with me in the mornings, he has not seen how hard I work. On top of that, he has been training a new girl at night for the past week. Yesterday, she came in and got snotty with me about that I had WAY too many pizzas on the hot hold and I didn't need that many! I had 7 on the hot hold. Obviously Bob has not been keeping the hot hold up like he is suposed to or she would have learned that there are suposed to be at least 8 up there at all times. Also, Bob must be talking crap about me to her, because she has only been there a week and she has never worked with me, yet she already comes in towards the end of my shift and starts telling me what to do and that everything is all wrong. She talks down to me just like Bob does.

I had one day that I came in and the bucket pizza sauce and the breadstick sauce where empty, but I didn't have time to stop and make them. Later on, I ran completly out of breakstick sauce and was force to drop everything I was doing to make more. But, I couldn't find time to make the pizza sauce. So I was waiting for Bob to come in for his shift so he could take over the register and I could make the sauce. When he came in, instead of coming over to talk to me, he went staight to the back to find what I hadn't done yet. He grab the stuff for making the pizza sauce, came up front and threw them on the counter. Then he angrily started making it himself and started complaining about the breakstick sauce was not important. He wouldn't listen to me when I tried to tell him that I made the breakstick sauce because I NEEDED it. I didnt' need the pizza sauce yet!

Then, the next morning, I came into work to find a printed letter left for me from Bob. It read as so:

Cattra,
When you use something up, replenish it. Don't wait till your off. Yesterday when I had to make pizza sauce that you should have made, I had to wait 3 hours before we could use it. The breakstick sauce is not as important as the pizza sauce. If something is not done, do it. I don't care who didn't do it, just take care of it and those who didn't do their job will be dealt with. I don't want to hear any more excuses for not having time to do something. That is bull. There IS time. And just rememeber, for every thing you say I didn't do right, I can find THREE things you didn't do!!!

WASH THE DISHES!!

There is no reason why Pizza Hut can't wash their own dishes. Don't wait for the dishwasher to do them. You can get back there and do them yourself!!! The dishwasher complains about having so many dishes to wash. I want to put a stop to that! Like I said NO EXCUSES! MAKE THE TIME!!!

Thank you, Bob.

I dont know what to do. He won't listen to me. He gets angry at me when I try to tell him what he does wrong (I have been working in Pizza Hut longer than he has), he won't listen when I try to explain why I did thing the way I did them, he talks down to me and he says bad things about me behind my back. Like I said, he hasn't worked a shift with me to see how hard I work. I just can't get through to him. I work so hard, yet I cannot make him happy. It's driving me to break of insanity.I've broken out in tears 3 times last week. I'm so close to quiting, I just want to run away and never look back, but I can't afford to walk away, I need the money. What can I do to stop the insanity. How I do I make him listen to me and treat me with respect? I don't want to just go tell on him to one of the higher ups, that will just make him hate me more. What do I do?

Sorry, I ramble too much. I just realized how much I typed, sorry. I'm just really upset. I hope this all makes sence. :(

All that typing for nothing?

You have a mean Lead, and so what? deal with it. Go and tell your supervisor or manager, why are you telling us?

I had many mean bosses before, and I learned how to deal with it, do the same. There is nothing your lead is doing that is illegal, he is not sexually harrasing you, he is not discriminating against you, what are we supposed to tell you?

Some members here will not even waste their time answering your post, I did.

Gotta agree with the others. It is not illegal for your boss to be a jerk. He is not breaking any laws. I understand you think he is being unreasonable and perhaps he is. But he's not acting illegally, and you do not have any legal recourse based on what you have posted.

Your options are to find a way to do everything he wants you to do, put up with his rudeness, or find another job.

Hopefully you feel better getting that anger out, If you are that unhappy find another job. Maybe then when Bob figures out one person can't do it all, he will ask you back, and you can tell him "not for a million dollars,a million and a qaurter maybe" Who knows he might accept it.Or you can be tactful and tell him you can't see how one person can do all that and would he mind if you just took a day off without pay, and watched him do your shift the proper way.Because an employee is only as good as thier trainer, and how well they are managed.

Boonehead, I applaud your creativity. And there's a part of me that would love to be a fly on the wall while she tries out your suggestion. But I'd be afraid that it would backfire on her; that the manager would feel she'd tried to show him up (when it became apparant that he was wrong and his expectations too high) and fire her, or at least make it even harder for her.

My response:

This is what happens when you fail to obtain your high school diploma. You have a lifetime of jobs like this one, as a direct result of that failure.

Hey, at least it's a step up from McDonald's. You've got that going for you.

Find a new job

Use your days off to find another position. You sound like a very dedicated employee who would be an asset to any company. Bob is a jerk, he's a small man with something to prove, you can surely find another position with little effort. There is nothing illegal about being a jerk, but you also don't have to put up with it. Good luck.

I did graduate high school, thank you. I'm currently in my first year of college. This is my first job, and I'm only working here to pay for college. Do you people just get on here to put people down because they are upset? All I wanted was some advise from someone with more expirence. If you are just going to make fun of poeple then there is no reason for you to post anything.

This (the forum and the job) should be a learning experience for you. There are lots of different kinds of people in the world. It's just that 98% of them give the rest a bad name.

Never get offended by the work you do, someone has to do the work, and by being gainfully employed you keep the economy running. The people with enough money to look down upon you, would not, because of people like you they have the money they do. And the other rich people that do look down on upon what others do for a living, really don't count because they were handed thier money and never did a day of honest work, but whoever handed them thier fortune appreciate people like you.
And for the remark "Hey, at least it's a step up from McDonald's. You've got that going for you." Did you ever give any thought to that high school drop out cooking your food has your life in his hands? One undercooked burger with Ecoli and your almost definitly dying a painful death. But don't fret because you have that underpaid, under educated, overworked and discouraged with life restaurant manager making sure everything is running right. All of a sudden you realize more peoples lives are in the hands of fast food workers than doctors.
