Here's what I guess I don't understand - why would a parent be upset that the school contacted the child's physician to double-check what they should do? And yes, the doctor's office should have been the one to ask the appropriate questions if information wasn't complete.
The thing to do, IMO, is to contact the school and ask that there be a conference call with his doctor so that all of you are on the same page wrt how to react to potential problems. Not to get all pissy because someone didn't know what information to offer.
