What is the name of your state? oh

I know a person who is section 8, she works full time job, 2 cars has custody of her granddaughter and her daughter (the girls mother)( (around 35 yrs old) is now staying their 90% of the time, her name is not on lease. The person also has that she is handicapped (walking problems?) but yet she works retail (register/stocking) and her home is multilevel.

My friend can't qualify for section 8 housing because she works a full time job? Nothing that would give her more money.
(she has a daughter). She has far less that the woman above.

I'm confused to why my friend can't qualify and how this other lady is getting all these benefits.

I'm confused as to why you posted that to a LEGAL ADVICE forum!!

If you don't like it... contact your local Housing authority and ask them.

We tried SEVERAL times to contact the HUD offices and got no-where, typical in our area. So I guess I thought just maybe there would be another avenue to try and help her. (she is someone who due to circumstances beyond her control and is unable to work 2 jobs like she ALWAYS has because of her small child) Trying to get an answer out of the local HUD is like pulling teeth because they are all crying how they need more money to help.

And yes I realize this was a legal forum. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Most states have special programs for Section8 that do an income spend down, they take out certain allowances for utilities, living expenses, gas/transportation for employment, rent, and etc.

To start it off, you have to qualify by making the set amount of their income limit, not a $ over, then they subtract the deductions off to see how much money you have left. Yes, there are qualifications for having additional family members, disabilities, working while disabled and others. These all serve to spend down your income to see how much help you can get if any.

So if the woman you mentioned is under the income limit, she can get help and your friend cannot even if she only makes $1 more. However there are regulations about having someone stay with you that isn't on your Section8 lease, she can have company for a limited time period, then they either must leave or be added to her lease with their income factored in.

Here is a HUD website from the government which you can check out for more information:
