What is the name of your state? I live in the state of Alabama.

My questions are, is an employer in Alabama required to pay settlements on work comp cases for injuries, other than medical, and work comp salary benefits? I also understand in Alabama that medical expense for the injury is covered for life, is this correct? I had a work related injury resulting in back surgercy. Medical bills and state percentage of my average salary is being paid.

When you get a work related injury, you are entitled to a monetary compensation even if you return to work with your regular employer.
You have the right to future medical treatment if you settle your case by Stipulations which pays for your compensation every 2 weeks until the entire amount of compensation is completely paid, if you settle by C & R (a lump sum ) (compromise and release) you then give up your rights to future med treatment, and also to reopen your case if your injury gets worse, you can either get the help of an attorney or get more info with your Information and Assistance Officer, usually located at the WCAB, chek the phone book for locations.

Alabama wc does provide lifetime medical benefits. You receive a settlement if you have a permanent disability as a result of your injury. Medical is not part of the settlement. Settlements have to be approved by the wc board. Alabama has an Ombudsman service that can assist with questions. The number to the Ombudsman is 800-528-5166.
