Settling with her insurance co., why do I have to share with my insurance company?

I am close to settling with the at-fault drivers insurance company, she rear ended me. I have my PIP which paid my medical and I assume will be reimbursed by her insurance. Why do I have to share part of my settlement with my own inusrance company? And, if I do have to pay them, by law or whateve, can we negotiate that amount?

I do have an atty helping with this, maybe they have rec'd that. But wouldnt my insurance be reimbursed by hers, for my medical? Why would I have to pay them more? $1400 seems a little much. Between my lawyer and my insurance, they are getting more than half. I'm sure I'll be talking with my atty or his assistant today, I left them a message regarding my confusion.

It depends on the terms of the settlement. They may be getting reimbursed directly, or they may be expecting money from you instead.

Why would I have to pay them more?

More than what? They're entitled to 100% reimbursement for whatever they paid out on your behalf for medical.

$1400 seems a little much.

What is the $1400 for?

Between my lawyer and my insurance, they are getting more than half.

That's why there are so many personal injury attorneys in this country, and why it's not always a good idea to involve them!

I agree, I think my insurance company should get their money back for my medical bills, I'm just not sure what this other amt is for. But I am on break from work now and off to call my atty and ask him. Thanks for all your advice, once I find out, I will re-post.

Its because they did pay my PIP for me, which was good that I had that. They will be reimbursed by her insurance company but I still have to pay a portion. Not crystal clear but if it has to be, it has to be. Thank for all your input.

Disregard my last post, that was still wrong. Her insurance doesn't pay mine back directly, that amt is included in my settlement and instead making me pay back 100% to my insurance, I pay a %. And in my case, I came out with $1000 more. Thank you to all who posted suggestions. It was my fault for not posting the right question.
